Early Years
Our Early Years Programme is a vibrant educational journey designed to ignite the curiosity and passion for learning in our youngest students. Catering to the developmental needs of children aged 2y10mo to 7 years old, our programme offers a nurturing environment where young minds flourish.
We believe that every child is unique and deserves the best start to their educational journey. Our Early Years Programme encompasses Pre-K for ages 2y10mo, 3 and 4, Kindergarten for students aged 5 years old, and Grade 1 for 6 year olds. It’s a crucial phase where children lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning.
Students attending pre-Kindergarten may be eligible for subsidy from the municipality (in Danish kommune) in which they live. Parents should contact their local municipality (Citizen Services, Borgerservice) to apply for ‘privat børnepasning’ subsidy. More information can be found here (in Danish). Please note that the school is not involved in the application process for the subsidy.
Features of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP)

This creates a dynamic learning environment that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and a love for inquiry-based learning. Through hands-on experiences, collaborative projects, and exploration of the world around them, students develop a deep understanding of concepts and skills that go beyond the classroom.
Our Commitment to Excellence
At Copenhagen International School, excellence is not just a goal; it’s a standard we uphold in everything we do. Our dedicated educators are passionate about nurturing the holistic development of each child, ensuring they reach their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. With small class sizes and personalised attention, every child receives the support they need to thrive.
Embraced as a vital component of the curriculum, play fosters creativity, curiosity, and collaboration among students. In the PYP, play serves as a vehicle for inquiry, enabling children to explore their interests and construct meaning from their experiences. Play is viewed as a language through which children express their thoughts, ideas, and emotions, fostering communication and self-expression. Both pedagogical approaches recognise play as a dynamic process through which children make sense of the world around them, laying the groundwork for lifelong learning and fostering a deep sense of engagement with their surroundings.
