Middle Years Programme (MYP)

Grades 6 – 10

The Middle Years Programme (MYP), for learners in Grades 6 – 10, emphasises intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies across subjects to the real world, and to become critical and reflective thinkers.

The MYP also fosters the developments of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global awareness, qualities that are essential for life.

The MYP Programme:

The MYP is a philosophical framework around which teachers plan the curriculum for our learners. We use the MYP objectives and criteria to measure and assess student learning, which is underpinned by a robust curriculum crafted by our teachers.

The MYP consists of eight subject groups integrated through five areas of interaction that provide a framework for learning within and across the subjects.

In the final year of the programme, Grade 10 students also engage in a Personal Project, an individually driven learning experience which allows them to demonstrate the understandings and skills they have developed throughout the programme.

Approaches to Learning:

Inherent to the MYP is development of skills that students need to be successful learners both within and beyond the classroom. These skills transcend all IB programmes, and focus on the areas of communication skills, research skills, self-management skills, social skills and thinking skills.
