10th graders explore and respond to art works

“They had complete freedom to do their art response,” says art teacher Beatrice.

How to combine academic rigour with creative energy

“I came up with a very broad list of artists from different time periods and around the world and a parity between men and women,” Beatrice explains. “The students chose within the list the artists they were interested in. Quite a lot went for the very well-known artists but were some were brave and went for somebody really unknown to the majority of the public. They then had to research the background information on the artist and select an artwork that they liked and do a copy or a visual study, an analysis of the artwork and then the art response. They had complete freedom to do their art response, so some of them stuck to something very similar to the artist, and some went far away, depending on the materials and their creativity.”
